CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

PURPOSE

Lexis Korea is committed to ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and protection of all children enrolled at our school.
This policy sets out our approach to safeguarding children from harm and promoting a safe learning environment.

 

SCOPE

This policy applies to:

– All staff, teachers, volunteers, and contractors.

– All students under the age of 19 attending Lexis Korea.

 

KEY PRINCIPLES

Safety First – Children must be protected from harm at all times.

Respect and Dignity – Treat children with care and consideration.

Listen to Children – Encourage children to voice concerns.

Confidentiality – Share information only when necessary.

Accountability – Staff follow procedures and maintain professionalism.

 

DEFINITION OF ABUSE
Abuse may take many forms, including but not limited to:

– Physical abuse:
Hitting, shaking, or otherwise causing physical harm.

– Emotional abuse:
Humiliation, intimidation, or persistent neglect.

– Sexual abuse:
Any sexual activity with a child or exposure to inappropriate materials.

– Neglect:
Failure to provide basic needs such as food, shelter, medical care, or
supervision.

 

STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

All staff and volunteers must: 

– Report any concerns or suspicions of abuse immediately.

– Maintain professional boundaries with children at all times.

– Follow the school’s safeguarding procedures.

 

RECOGNIZING WARNING SIGNS

– Sudden changes in behavior or performance.

– Unexplained injuries or repeated medical visits.

– Withdrawal from friends or activities.

– Fearful reactions to staff or certain adults.

– Inappropriate sexual knowledge or behaviors.

 

REPORTING PROCEDURES

If a child is in immediate danger, contact local authorities:

–  Police: 112

–  Child Protection
Services: 1391 (Korea)

Internal Reporting:

– Report to Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) or School Director.

– Document date, time, facts, and any witnesses.

– Keep information confidential and secure.

 

CONFIDENTIALITY AND ETHICS

– Respect privacy of children and families.

– Share information only with staff responsible for child protection.

– Avoid discussing cases outside of official channels.

 

PREVENTION MEASURES

– Conduct background checks on all staff and volunteers.

– Annual staff training on child protection.

– Educate children about safe behaviors.

– Encourage open communication between staff, students, and parents.
